DESCRIPTION: Both Skinner and Horton chucks were standard on Leblond, South Bend, and other major-make lathes for many years before the two companies combined as Skinner-Horton. They were later acquired by Cushman Industries as the US machine tools industry consolidated due to competition from overseas. This nice three-jaw chuck originates from some time not long enough after the Cushman transition for the Skinner name to have disappeared. Some machine tool aficionados may be able to date it with the model and serial numbers. For others, what will really matter is that it's just a good, US-made, well-designed chuck. Please note that the through-hole is 2.75" even though it does not look like it given the perspective angle of the images.
